Bryan collection of photos, documents and personal items. Born Nashville TN 1860, graduated West Point 1882 Bryan's first assignment was Ft. Custer MT 1883, followed by Ft. Walla Walla 1884, Ft. Lapwai ID, Ft. Bowie and Ft. Huachucha AZ, Nashville, Ft. Wingate NM, Ft. Leavenworth KS, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Philippines and Ft. Meyer VA. Bryan married his Nashville sweetheart Janie Seay in 1904, had a son who was named after him the same year. Retired for disability incurred in line of duty in 1905. 1906 they moved to San Diego purchased a home at 306 W Grape St. in 1907 his wife died while visiting family in Nashville leaving Bryan to raise his son alone. 1914 roger Bryan wrote his autobiography entitled "An Average American Army Officer. Included in collection is 12 military photos included West Point graduation 1883, identified group photo at Ft. Bowie, standing portrait of Bryan with 1881 officers helmet, his 1880 Cadet appointment, 1883 2nd Lieutenant , Cavalry School at Ft. Leavenworth 1889 completion, 1896 Law certificate, and appointments to 1st lieutenant 1890 and Captain 1899. Additionally the collection includes his signed gauntlets, spurs, collar, military belt, cap insignia, Captains shoulder straps, dress shoulder knots, personal photos including wedding, son, San Diego home, wives family, her obituary and various letters and a copy of his book. An intriguing collection offering a rare insight into the life of a US Cavalry Officer in Western History.
