Very Rare and Important 1844 James K. Polk Campaign Ribbon With Texas Theme. This superb, unlisted design features the good ship Equal Rights and the sister ship Texas, "Alone but not deserted." A major theme of Polk's campaign was support for Texas, then an independent Republic. Of course, soon after his Inauguration, Texas was annexed as a part of the Polk-engineered "Manifest Destiny" drive to expand the U.S. to the southwest. The ribbon is from the Joe Brown Collection, and is in choice condition but for a light stain in the center area which does not detract badly. 3" x 7.65".
