Ignatius Nester Marked Percussion Conversion Fowler with Fine Engraving and Relief Carved Stock
Fitted with a silver blade sight, decoratively inlaid near them muzzle, with a 1" wide engraved brass barrel band, an area of scroll engraving at the breech along with a golden proof stamp marked "crown/ IGNATI/ VS: NEST/ ER". The conversion bolster is set into the cut flashpan, with "IGNATIVS" engraved behind the hammer, "NESTER" toward the front and a pair of hunting scenes, showing a hunter on the plains with his dog behind the hammer, and a man in a wooded scene trying to lasso a deer ahead of the hammer. The brass triggerguard and reverse plate are engraved, with a marsh scene of a hunter taking aim on ducks on the plate and a running rabbit on the guard, along with more general engraving. Half length stock, with a brass tipped ramrod, engraved brass forearm tip and ramrod pipe, inscription plate marked "2" on the floral carved wrist, raised cheekpiece with engraved brass accent band, additional floral carving on the left side of the butt and an engraved buttplate with a scene of a man posing with his rifle on the heel.

Condition: Good. The barrel and lock show a mixed brown and gray patina, with pitting concentrated around the bolster, light dings and handling marks. Stock is good as refinished, with traces of silver finish on the brass furniture, cracks in the forearm tip, and some minor chips and scratches overall. Mechanically fine.
