Polish pianist, composer, and politician (1860–1941) whose abounding talent and personal magnetism made him one of the most popular virtuosi of all time. ALS in French, signed “I. J. Paderewski,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 8, Villa Bassaraba letterhead, September 18, 1893. Letter to famed British conductor Sir Charles Halle. In part: “It is useless to assure you how sensible I am of your nice, kind words. Your letter has caused me the warmest and most rightful pleasure. I will be most happy to offer you my assistance for it is a true holiday to play with you. For the moment I cannot tell you my possible dates. Mr. Mayer has still not sent me the plan of my tour - but in a few days I will be on top of it and will not neglect to make you aware of them. As for the conditions, I hope that one will not find them too demanding. In asking you please to present my respects to Lady Halle, I pray you, dear and illustrious colleague.” In fine condition, with a bit of scattered light soiling, and a few corner creases. The year 1893 was a big one for Paderewski: his tour of England made his reputation as the most famous pianist of his time.
