<B>Igbo (Nigeria), Ahoada Region</B></I><BR>Goat Figure from an <I>Owo</B></I> Headdress<BR>Wood, fiber<BR>Height: 4 7/8 inches Length: 8 inches Width: 2 1/8 inches<BR><BR>This goat carving was taken from a headdress similar to the one illustrated as Figure 15 in John Picton's "Ekpeye Masks and Masking" (<I>African Arts,</B></I> Vol.XXI, no.2, February 1988, pp.46-53, 94). It shows a goat with backward-sweeping horns that almost meet, and echo the sweep of the forward-arcing tail. The tail was broken and indigenously repaired.<BR><BR>Provenance: H.
