Identified World War II Colt U.S. Army Contract Model 1911A1 Pistol Rig with Web Belt, Leather Holster, Canteen and Knife

Manufactured in 1941. The pistol has the later parkerized finish with the early checkered brown plastic grips, without ribs and with reinforcing rings. The pistol has a "P" proofmark on the top of the slide ahead of the rear sight and on the left side of the frame below the magazine release. The final inspection mark "RS." (Colonel Robert Sears) in a rectangle is stamped on the left side of the frame above the magazine release and on the top of the frame. The barrel has a full blue finish, with "P" on the left side of the lug with "COLT 45 AUTO" on the lower left side. The frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" over the serial number behind the slide stop pin hole and "M1911A1 U.S.ARMY" ahead of it. The left side of the trigger guard bow is marked with a Colt "T" assembly mark and the Colt Verified Proof. The left side of the slide has the Colt two-line, two-block 1897-1913 patent dates, with the Colt Hartford address in a second block, with the Rampant Colt logo in the middle of the blocks. It has one half-tone blue magazine stamped "B" on the lip of the base and is complete with an early issue unmarked web, canteen and 1941 dated cover, and bandage pouch with bandage inside. This lot also includes an early issue large bowie type knife in a leather sheath. The knife is marked on the backside of the cross guard "Marsden Products". The consignor stated that this entire lot was issued to Lieutenant Lewis Britton (Technical/Ordnance Officer) in 1941/42 timeframe and used by him throughout WWII. Accompanying this lot is a typed written biography on Lt. Britton and the various units in the US, Australia and the Philippines where he was stationed.

Very fine with 85% of the parkerized finish overall with wear and thinning on the front edges and top of the slide from being in a holster, with finish loss on the recoil spring housing and front edge of the frame extension. The trigger is replaced with a Model 1911 style long variation. The grips are fine with sharp/distinct checkering overall showing minor wear across the tops of the checkering. The web belt, canteen and cover and bandage pouch are all very good, showing fading and honest field wear and use. The holster is good with visible markings, showing considerable age cracking of the leather overall and is a little stiff. The knife is also very good with the sheath being fine with tight stitching with the leather cross strap showing much wear and age crackling. A nice grouping of WWII items.
