Id'd New Hampshire Made Silver Hilt Sword by Samuel Drowne,<p>(1749-1815). A fine circa 1780 hunting sword with roped ivory grip topped by a finely executed silver (likely coin) eagle's head grasping an iron link chain looped to a silver guard decorated with simple stamped flourishes. Blade with double 3/4 length f<p>Blade retaining original gummed Corcoran loan tag marked "57.2a." Ivory hilt with long, tight crack. Guard with broken branch (noted in the Corcoran catalog). Traces of original gilding remaining on guard and in bottoms of fullers. Leather on scabbard dry, missing much of its original polished surface and lacking about a 6" section, exposing the wooden scabbard beneath. The drag open at the tip, and possibly missing a decorative ball or similar device.
