Fleming who at the time was working for the Kemsley chain of newspapers, writes, in part: "Dear Nicholas [sic] I gather from Mr. Neville that your contract with us ends today and he has asked me to write you about the future. The suggestion now is that we pay you a straight five guineas per ordered picture, Sometimes, as at present, there will be six ordered pictures a week while at others there nay be no more than one or two..." Nicolas Bentley was a very popular British author and illustration artist. He is possibly best known for his drawings used to illustrate T. S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats (on which the musical Cats is based).
