<hr align=left size=5 width=33% color=#778899>Three surviving Flagraisers and famed photographer of one of the most costly battles of WWII, with a loss of some 6,000 Marines. Three FDCs commemorating Iwo Jima, including one also celebrating Okinawa and “All Points to Tokyo” postmarked in Washington Jul 11, 1945. Individually signed by <b><font size=-1>Rene A. Goeporn</font></b>, adding “<i>Feb 23 1955 Survivor</i>”; <b><font size=-1>John H. Bradley</font></b>, adding “<i>Iwo Jima Flag Raiser Survivor 1/17/50</i>”; and <b><font size=-1>Joe Rosenthal</font></b>, the photojournalist who captured on film the famous flagraising on Mount Suribachi. Also a colorful FDC honoring Admiral Chester Nimitz and the USS <i>Missouri</i> postmarked Sep 10, 1945 at Nimitz, WV. Signed by <b><font size=-1>Ira H. Hayes</font></b>, adding “<i>Cpl., U.S.M.C</i>.,” the most scarce of the Flagraiser signatures. Lastly is a colorful FDC designated “Operation Crossroads,” the first atomic bomb test at Bikini. Postmarked Jun 30, 1946, and signed by <b><font size=-1>Holland M. Smith</font></b>, Commanding officer of the marines who reached the top of Suribachi and earned the sobriquet “Howlin’ Mad.” He adds, “<i>Gen. USMC Retired.</i>” His autograph is accompanied by newspaper clipping, La Jolla, CA, Apr 3, 1960, containing his comments regarding the flagraising. All boldly signed. Fine collection in superb condition.
