George IV, Sterling silver teapot. Made by Edward Power, Dublin, Ireland, 1826.
11 inches accross; 6 3/4inches high; weight 27oz.
Panelled body richly embossed with flowers and scrolls. The front & back panels with a reserve formed by scrolls. Stands on 4 paw feet, joined by beautifully worked flowers and foliage. Note 'toenails' of paws. Scrolling handle and spout (with internal tea strainer) similarly decorated with embossed flowers and acanthus leaves. The hinged domed lid continues the pattern of the floral panels and terminates in an applied trio of trifoil leaves and a beautifully made pomegranate with exceptional detail.
The whole is a masterful example of early 19th century silver workmanship.
Hallmarks underneath the body, on the handle and one on the applied foliage of the lid.
King's head in profile, facing left; Maker's mark EP; date mark in a shield F; Harp crowned and figure with harp (Hibernia).
