GUN. Cal. 37MM. S# 31551. Bbl. 8 1/8" smoothbore. Gun is accompanied by a galvanized steel box stenciled with "S/S HOPE VICTORY. The HOPE VICTORY was a general cargo ship of 7607 gross tons built in 1945. The gun is of brass construction with a blued steel barrel. Both sides of the grip have " INTERNATIONAL FLARE SIGNAL CO/ TIPPECANOE CITY OHIO". Marked on right side of frame" PT MAY '45". Lanyard loop on butt w/ cotton lanyard. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 12"X6 1/4" X 9 1/4" Galvanized storage box. Empty cardboard flare carton marked for red parachute flares dated 1968. CONDITION: Gun has moderate wear and staining turning patina. Steel barrel has most of its blue finish. Box has wear and oxidation commensurate with extended service at sea. Flare carton has legible markings. PROVENANCE: from the renowned collection of quality sporting arms from Lewis Drake together with inventory of Lewis Drake Associates. (02-23530/RW).
