INTENSE RED-ORANGE CROCOITE
INTENSE RED-ORANGE CROCOITE
Adelaide Mine, Dundas, Zeehan District, Tasmania, Australia
The name crocoite comes from the Greek word for saffron, an allusion to the saffron-orange color of its powder. Crocoite is a lead chromate mineral that only is found crystallized in two world localities: Russia and Dundas, Tasmania. Of the two locations, the Tasmanian location consistently produces by far the larger and finer specimens. Brilliant, intensely red-orange crystals are the hallmark of fine crocoite specimens, such as in this sizable example. There are numerous jack-straw crystals artfully nestled in an open vug in the limonite gossan matrix. Overall size is 6 x 4 x 2 ¾ inches.

Shipping: Requires 3rd Party Shipping (view shipping information)
