This unmarked repousse silver service is inscribed as follows: Presented to Phillip Stahl, Esq. by his friends of the Black Smith Dept. of the Philadelphia Navy Yard as a mark of esteem, October 12, 1866". The set consists of a large silver tray, measuring 27" across (including handles) x 17", oval in shape with a scalloped, dished edge. The handles are cast scrollwork. 2) A large footed coffee urn, standing 16-1/2" high with lid being in repousse style, illustrating two cottages in a woodland scene on one side and a large raised panel cartouche on the reverse. Urn shaped with an open spout, measuring 7" tall. 7) Urn shaped tea caddy with complementary repousse decoration on a circular pedestal base with a lid crowned by the pumpkin motif as before, standing 9-3/4" high. Silver-plating is beginning to wear on the scalloped edge of the large tray. In general, all of the pieces show a good deal of use. Many of the lids are slightly bent and the pumpkin finials loose.
