Stunning unique Inkwell. Antique piece made of bronze with a wood base. Lion faces surrounded by open winged roosters. Wood base is cracked as shown on pictures but solid.
Age unkown but most likely from the 1800's. Here is an exert from an online expert's opinion: I must admit this is one of the more unusual pieces that I have ever seen. The central container is in the Neo-Classical style of the late 18th-early 19th century. It is of an urn shape with lion masks, and acanthus leaf border. The three mythological creatures are very much in the Far Eastern style, something seen on the Chinese bronzes for example. There are other details of decoration that are distinctively Far Eastern as well - the caracsa type scroll on top of the central urn and the lotus petals bands around the base of the birds. The mounts on the wooden base are Rococo revival style. This could be a colonial public place inkwell. Such as a post office in India under the British Raj. In that case it could be a late 19th century revival of various styles piece.
