(INGEMAR JOHANSSON'S HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP GLOVE)
(b. 1932) Swedish heavyweight boxer, the last European to be World Heavyweight Champ. A rare and historically important relic, Ingemar Johansson's signed boxing glove, the very glove used to defeat Floyd Patterson to win the World Heavyweight boxing title on June 26, 1959 at Yankee Stadium! After knocking Patterson down no less than seven times, ""The Hammer"" won the fight in a 3rd round with a knockout. His reign as World Heavyweight Champion only lasted one year, however, as Patterson came back and defeated him on June 20, 1960 to become the first man to ever regain the title. A year later, Johansson once again fought Patterson on May 1, 1961, and once again lost, this time in a vicious six round match. The glove bears typical wear from heavy use, and a light but legible signature across the top. Accompanied by a D.S. 1p. 4to., Marc Du Charme, Mar. 30, 1992, a typed notarized statement of provenance from Johansson's son PATRICK JOHANSSON, stipulating that the glove belonged to his father and was used in the historic World Heavyweight Championship fight. Ppresented in an acrylic pedestal box, with the accompanying letter handsomely matted and frame. A truly unique boxing item, in very good condition, and ideal for display.
