INDIAN WAR PERIOD PENNSYLVANIA PRESENTATION FOOT OFFICER'S SWORD.
INDIAN WAR PERIOD PENNSYLVANIA PRESENTATION FOOT OFFICER’S SWORD. A U.S. Regulation Model 1850 Foot Officer’s sword having a 33-1/2" lightly curved single edged blade of steel with etched designs over 3/4 of both faces. The designs contain military trophies, floral sprays “U.S." and a spread winged American eagle and shield. The ricasso is etched “W.H. Horstmann & Sons/Philadelphia." A Solingen, Germany maker’s mark appears on the reverse of the ricasso. The hilt is regulation style of cast brass, gold washed, the grip of wood covered with sharkskin and twisted brass wire wrap. The scabbard is of wood covered in dark gray sharkskin with brass furniture. On the obverse of the top mount is engraved Presented to/Lieut. D.A. Mac Carroll/by the Members of Co. C/1st Reg’t. Inf. N.G. Pa./May 28th 1873. CONDITION: Excellent. The blade exhibits frosty etching, however, there are areas of discoloration near the tip of the blade. The hilt and grip are fine, scabbard very strong and brass furniture with a medium yellow patina-uncleaned. 4-49887 CW
