INDIAN WAR ERA KEPI
U.S. Army Indian War Kepi: Standard issue kepi from circa mid 1880's. Nice full blue color. There are two small moth holes towards the left rear of the wool; one about 1/16" and the other 1/32". The buttons securing the chinstrap are standard eagle/ shield buttons. The leather bill is securely attached to the body of the kepi. There appears to be no apparent repair to the chinstrap or the bill although the bill does show some cracking to the finish which is standard for a kepi this old. Inside the kepi is a complete linen lining and leather sweatband. Inside the sweatband is stamped "U.S. QMD" and a 7 indicating the size. Attached to the crown stiffing board is remnants of the manufacture's label but it is unreadable. Attached to the front of the kepi is a pair of crossed sabers with a letter D. This is a very fine to near excellent condition kepi from the Indian Wars and Spanish American War period.
