INDIAN MADE LATE 19TH CENTURY FUR HAT. Plains, or as per consignor, of Apache origin. Many of the objects in the Carl Moon collection originally had identification tags. However they were removed when Moon's descendants were ill advised that tribal persons might try to confiscate the collection. Such an orig tag is present in this hat: Carl Moon, 65 North Mentor Avenue, Pasadena, Cal". Sides of hat made of buffalo hide with fur. Top of hat made of foreleg of black bear with claws (brown phase). Seven domed, silver colored buttons present. Seven turkey vulture wing feathers loosely attached. These feathers differ from eagle wing feathers in their shape, underneath coloration, and lack of surface sheen. They are not eagle feathers! Complimentary to belt in lot #3588. CONDITION: Interior staining from wears. Some nap of buffalo hair missing. Webbing of feathers intact but ragged. 4-55228 (5,000-8,000)"
