[IN THE CORNFIELD OF ANTIETAM]: War-date Union soldier's letter written by Pvt. George Satterlee, Co. A, 104th New York 2pp. 8vo., "Sharpsburg Battle, Md, Sept 20, 1862", concerning the actions of his regiment in action at the Cornfield, in part: "...I have been in 7 battles...this last battle at Sharpsburg was the hardest one...that was ever fought...we made a charge on the devils and mowed them down...but before we had reinforcements come up they cut our brigade all up. In our company we had 14 wounded and none killed. Our captain [Henry Tuthill] was wounded. We had all together in the regiment 175 wounded and 9 killed...". Satterlee fought with the regiment at Chancellorsville and was wounded at Gettysburg, only to die as a prisoner after being captured at the battle of Weldon Railroad, Va., Aug. 19, 1864.
