IMRANIDS: Muhadhdhab al-Dawla, 987-1018, AR dirham (3.29g), al-Salîq, AH385, A-1587, citing the Buwayhid overlord Baha al-Dawla Abu Nasr (but without Nasir al-Dawla Abu Dulaf), minor weakness, VF, RRR. The city of al-Saliq lay on the Tigris River about halfway between al-Basra and Wasit. A dirham of the same mint & date was in the Islamic Coin Auction #2 (March 2000), lot 489, and fetched about $800. It is of different dies, thus confirming that the mint name should not be interpreted as a mis-spelling of al-Basra. Moreover, there was a rather extensive production of dirhams at al-Basra 385 without the name of Muhadhdhab al-Dawla (Treadwell-Ba385), whence it makes sense that the 'Imranid king would have struck his coinage elsewhere.
