IMPRISONING BLACKS IN THE PORTS OF SOUTH CAROLINA
Printed pamphlet titled: "Colored Mariners in Ports of South Carolina: Message from the President of the United States Transmitting the information required by a resolution of the House of Representatives of 2d February Ultimo, in relation to an act of the Legislature of the State of South Carolina, directing the imprisonment of colored persons arriving from abroad in the ports of that State...", 18pp. Mar. 2, 1842. This notice, of course, called for the imprisonment of newly-arrived slaves, who ironically played a huge role in the Atlantic trade of the time. The pamphlet contains the text of letters from politicians such as John Quincy Adams, William Ogilby and others. May be incomplete, very good condition.

Estimate: $150 - 200.
