IMPORTANT PRE-CIVIL WAR 33-STAR GARRISON SIZED AMERICAN FLAG. A large garrison sized American flag having 33 stars adopted on July 4th 1859 (with the addition of the State of Oregon) The flag measures 6’at the hoist, 11-1/2’ at the fly with 6" high stars in cut outs. This flag was authorized for two years until the addition of Kansas on July 4, 1861. The canton measures 4’ 6" x 3’ 6". The flag is made entirely hand sewn of red white and blue wool bunting except for the stars which are white cotton and the hoist reinforcement which is made of a coarse woven white canvas with two hand sewn grommets. An historic pre-Civil War flag which witnessed the events leading up to the great conflict. CONDITION: Good. The flag is in respectable condition with a few losses to the top of the canton, not affecting stars, and holes here and there throughout the fly. The fly end is tattered from use with minor tears and fraying. Colors are strong, the whites have darkened. 4-49170 CW
