IMPORTANT PIERCED LAMINATED ROSEWOOD CLOSED ARMCHAIR ATTRIBUTED TO JOHN HENRY BELTER NYC. Upholstered armchair has upholstered front and back with laminated border. C-scroll, acorn, and flower motif with grape clusters. Carved scrolled front arms have carving down to small scrolled foot including a waterleaf and other carving. Shaped front crest with vine and flower decoration. Set on brass caster feet. Top crest appears to be attached to C-scroll; wood bulges out from level of other lamination. Back scrolled feet. Similar to the pattern of the three legged corner chair on page 100 of the "American Furniture of the 19th Century" 1840-1880 by Richard and Eileen Dubrow. SIZE: 47 1/2"h x 26 1/2"w. CONDITION: Split in veneer above right back viewers leg, otherwise very good. 14-172
