IMPERIAL GERMAN REGIMENTAL STEIN FROM THE 117th
INFANTRY REGIMENT. Stein measures 11 1/4" in height. The body of the stein reads "7. Comp. Grokh. Hef. Inftr. Reg. geib Reg. N:117. Mainz. 1897 1899." around the base. The top reads "Es lebe Hoch das Regiment das sich mit Stolz Vikt. Melitta nennt." The central portion includes vivid polychromatic scenes of infantry soldiers in camp & engaged in battle. The base has a lithophane that shows a peasant domestic scene. Elaborate pewter domed lid is topped by a seated infantry soldier drinking from his canteen. CONDITION: light wear overall. The soldier's helmet on the finial has lost its spike. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18583/BF). $300-500.
