ILLUSTRATED NEWSPAPER OF THE HANGING OF A BLACK MAN. Miami-Union--Extra, Troy, Ohio, Friday September 17, 1880, column one "HANGED!" Terrific sheet detailing the case and public hanging of an African-American, George Mitchell, found guilty of murdering his wife. Illustrated with an image of Mitchell, the gallows, and a map of the murder scene. A fine, and scarce 19th century sheet. Matted and framed, 16.5 x 22"; small tear near lower edge and tan 1" spot on map at bottom, otherwise good. Not examined out of frame, but appears to be printed on both sides.
