IGOR STRAVINSKY: (1882 - 1971) One of the greatest composers of this century, Stravinsky wrote such masterpieces as "L'Oiseau de feu", "Petrouchka" and "Le sacre de printemps", as well as numerous concertos and piano pieces. A superb association piece, the printed score to his beloved opera L'Oiseau de Feu, inscribed to noted musical director and conductor Victor Baravalle (1885-1939). The 70pp. folio size score was published in Moscow, 1910, for the premiere performance of the opera in Paris, June 25, 1910. Boldly inscribed on the first page of music "Pour M. Baravalle I. Stravinsky", during Stravinsky's documented visit on February 25, 1935 to MGM Studios where Baravalle worked, which was the composer's first visit to the US and Hollywood. Housed in a black leather case bearing a silver name plate on the cover reading: "L'Oiseau de Feu Strawinsky Victor Baravalle". This item comes to us from a direct descendent of Baravalle, and included with the score are copies of items establishing Stravinsky's relationship with Baravalle, including a photocopy of a photo inscribed to Baravalle, informal, unpublished shots showing Stravinsky with Baravalle at MGM Studios during his visit, an article about "Stravinsky and MGM", and more. In very good condition, bearing a fine bold inscription. $1,500-2,000
