Printer: American BN Co., NY. 7 x 11.” The company was probably located in Idaho in or near the Poorman lode, which is where proustite is known to occur. It is plentiful in the west, with another large deposit in the Ruby District of Colorado. Proustite is a non-metallic, non-opaque sulfide that is sometimes used for gemstones, although it is too soft for everyday jewelry. Its bright scarlet red to reddish orange and sometimes brownish tones make it distinctive and is where the name "Ruby Silver" derives. It is closely related to the mineral pyrargyrite…(proustite contains arsenic whereas pyrargyrite contains antimony))….Proustite is the rarer of the two minerals and is usually found in the same ore veins with pyrargyrite, silver and other silver sulfides [Ref: www.galleries.com/minerals/sulfides/proustit/proustit.htm and also www.nevada-outback-gems.com/.../proustite_mineral_info.htm].
