I Was a Teenage Frankenstein (American International, 1957). Half Sheet (22" X 28"). In the 1950s, independent studios like American International Pictures tapped the burgeoning (and increasingly alienated) youth market. This variation on the Frankenstein story -- like its predecessor, "I Was a Teenage Werewolf" -- attempts to appeal to teenagers' sense of displacement, an "adolescence-as-horror-show" metaphor that "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" would perfect four decades later. Whit Bissell stars as Professor Frankenstein, the laughingstock of the academic community for his theories on limb transplantation. To prove the efficacy of his theories, he performs unauthorized experiments at home, and when a car of teenagers crashes nearby, the convenient accumulation of bodies allows Frankenstein his greatest accomplishment. Like any parent, the professor grows frustrated with his sullen monster, which leads to the immortal line that all parents have considered shouting at their petulant offspring: "Answer me! You have a civil tongue in your head! I know, I sewed it in there!" This half sheet has tape-repaired tears on every edge, pinhole damage in the corners and considerable scuff on each side. Very Good/Fine.
