I. G. FARBEN 75TH ANNIVERSARY PORCELAIN PRESENTATION
Chilling commemorative souvenir from the creator of Zyklon B, the gas used to kill millions of Jews in camp gas chambers, a porcelain medallion commemorating the 75th anniversary of the founding of I. G. Farben (Hoechst). The 6" diameter white disc, 3/8" thick, displays a relief image of a laborer being led by a woman representing progress or advancement, their hands clasped as they climb stairs, the woman holding a torch in her right hand. The years "1863-1938" are shown at left, with "I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE S.G." appearing at right. The medallion, made by K.P.M., is accompanied by the original descriptive sheet and presentation box. The enclosure praises the firms' work to date: "?together individual sound?scientific and technical work?and after 75 years?go in hopeful confidence to a full century of work?led by the glowing torch of science?". Fine. Hoechst managers in charge were tried, as were the other I. G. Farben managers, in the Nuremberg trial against the company for its role in the exploitation of enslaved laborers and for testing drugs on concentration camp prisoners.
