I'D MCCLELLAN SADDLE AND COVER, 11TH KANSAS CAVALRY.
I'D MCCLELLAN SADDLE AND COVER, 11TH KANSAS CAVALRY. McClellan saddle and tooled leather cover, and bridle belonging to 1st Lt. Josiah M. Hubbard of the 11th Kansas cavalry. A fine, id'd McClellan, featuring a custom, hand-tooled leather cover, bordered with floral and geometric motifs, with patriotic shields at each "tail." The saddle does not appear to be Government issue, but rather a custom model made of raw leather over a wooden frame sewn together with gut or sinew, the front and back with a beaded brass rim. Includes bridle and bit that may not be period to the saddle. A great western style saddle and cover, with terrific history. Provenance: Descended directly from the family. Saddle and cover dry, but should respond well to leather treatment. Leather of underside of saddle worn in several places, rawhide stitching at rear of cover beginning to separate. Girth moth-eaten and most missing, one stirrup missing leather boot-cover. PLEASE NOTE: THIS LOT WILL BE SOLD ON EBAY LIVE AUCTIONS BETWEEN 4:00-5:00pm EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME ON MAY 10, 2002.
