Admiral (1900–1986) who oversaw the creation of America’s fleet of nuclear-powered naval vessels. TLS signed “H. G. Rickover,” three pages, 8 x 10.5, USS George C. Marshall letterhead, March 28, 1966. Letter to Minnesota Congressman Clark MacGregor, in part: "We have just successfully completed the first sea trials of our thirty-sixth Polaris nuclear submarine. The USS George C. Marshall was built by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, Newport News, Virginia. We also have in operation twenty-two attack type nuclear submarines, making a total of fifty-eight. This ship is named for a distinguished soldier-statesman, General of the Army George C. Marshall." Rickover proceeds to then give a lengthy rundown of Marshall's career and achievements. In fine condition, with staple holes and a paperclip impression to the top edge. Accompanied by an uncommon 3.5 x 1.5 x .5 cut section of the USS George C. Marshall ballistic missile submarine, applied to a wooden plaque with engraved plate: "ERP II, U.S.S. George C. Marshall, SSBN–654 (Gold)."
