Hyacinthe Rigaud (Perpignan 1659 - 1743 Paris), attributed to, Portrait of Cardinal Andre Hercule de Fleury (1653 - 1743), oil on canvas, 101 x 81,5 cm, w/ frame (Wo).€ 3.800 - 6.000 US $ 3.760 - 5.940 Cardinal de Fleury, prime minister under King Louis XV. of France. The portrait exists in several versions (repetitions) and the one above shows close parallels with the version at the Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt. However, acc. to Ludwig Meyer (cf. Expert's Report) the above painting is of superior quality: "the facial features are more clearly defined, the eyes livelier, and the hair painted in greater detail." Meyer considers the head of the portrait to be by the artist's own hand and dates the painting to 1728 - 1743. Expert's Report: Ludwig Meyer, Institut für Kunstgeschichte. Provenance: priv. coll.
