President J. Hussey signs this certificate (to Cohe Uhler & Co) in the mine he had named for himself. Incorporated in the peak mining era for Cornucopia, the mine soon fell on hard times. There are seven assessment stamps from 1877 to 1879 on the back. I assume that this mine took much more than it gave, but give the owner credit, he did not give up easily. Of course the signature on the back is none other than the secretary of the company, R. H. Brown. Printer: G.T. Brown & Co. S.F. One of the first, if not the first African American printer in the Western U.S. Vignette of miners working in a mine in lower left. Cream paper with black ornate border and black print. "Cornucopia Mining Dist." to left of name and "Elko County, Nevada" to right of name.City: CornucopiaCounty: ElkoState: NV
