American naval admiral (1882–1968) who commanded the Pacific Fleet at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Relieved of his command after the attack, Kimmel retired shortly thereafter and spent much effort defending his actions. Fountain pen signature, “H. E. Kimmel,” on an off-white 5 x 3 card. Collector notations at the top and bottom of the card, and a small magazine photo affixed to the left of the signature. In very good condition, with light overall toning, a block of heavier toning at the lower right corner touching the last three letters of his signature, and surface loss to lower right.
