Chemist and inventor (1778–1829) best known for his discoveries of several alkali and alkaline earth metals, as well as contributions to the discoveries of the elemental nature of chlorine and iodine. ALS signed “H. Davy,” one page both sides, 7 x 9, July 31, 1812. Handwritten letter to "S. Parker" at Durham House, in part: "I do not think any manufacturer would be led to adopt the process from the account in my book which is purely theoretical & it is the application of the principle that constitutes the real practical discovery. I have however attended to your suggestion & have made an alteration that puts steam & vapour entirely out of sight. By applying to Mr. Hunter, you will see it. As the statement stands in the corrected leaf, no person would have any idea that the vapour of water is the agent to be employed." Addressed on the integral leaf in Davy's hand. In very good to fine condition, with some old paper remnants along the left edge, and seal-related paper loss to the integral address leaf.
