Very scarce ALS, written upon his return from filming the Barefoot Contessa in Italy, signed “Bogie,” two pages, 5.5 x 7, The Dorchester, London letterhead, no date but circa 1954. Letter to his sister Frances, whose nickname was Pat. In part: “Finally got out of Italy and am back in London. The mails being what they are, sometimes a week and a half delay. I’ve managed to get news of you slightly delayed. Hope you like the new place and that it will in time be much more pleasant than Norwalk your old Alma Mater. I really feel that if you try hard we will get somewhere this time—I hope so, dear. Betty is coming over and we should be home a little after June 1st.” Central horizontal and vertical fold, scattered toning and wrinkling, and portions of Bogart’s writing and signature fairly light, but still mostly legible, otherwise very good condition. Bogart’s younger sister Frances, nicknamed Pat, was a troubled soul who spent much of her adult life in and out of mental institutions. She was a beloved part of the family and Bogie always ensured that she was well taken care of. This rare postcard was originally removed from Pat’s personal scrapbook. Bogart handwritten letters are of the utmost scarcity.
