<B>Humorous NASA Signed Letter,</B></I> one page, 8" x 10.5". Houston, March 18, 1971. To Joe Garino, signed "<I>The Red Baron.</B></I>" In part, "<I>I didn't forget you - along with the standard 'I been busy', I'm a lousy letter writer. I'm enclosing six back-up patches not present , but I could only get my pinkies on two of the mission ones. More of them plus your crew picture will be on the way as soon as I can corner that crew long enough to sign it. They're on the roast beef circuit now, but should be in this week sometime to change shorts and socks before leaping off again...As for the Sako 243, you bet I'm interested! That's a beautiful gun and a great cartridge...</B></I>" The Apollo 10 Lunar Module was called "Snoopy" and, after it was jettisoned, Mission Control sent a message to the crew: "Congratulations on doing what I've been trying to do for a long time - signed, The Red Baron," a reference to the "Peanuts" comic strip battles between Snoopy and the Red Baron. There's also a handwritten postscript relating to hunting binoculars and the words "<I>Up Yours!</B></I>" and "<I>Don't Lurch!!</B></I>" The crew referred to may be Apollo 14 which returned from the Moon on February 9, 1971, five weeks earlier. On March 1st, they were honored at a White House dinner. The writer of this letter is unknown. <I>From the collection of renowned former physical trainer of the astronauts Joe Garino.
