Humming Bird, The (Paramount, 1924) Australian Day Bill The Humming Bird (Paramount, 1924).
The Humming Bird (Paramount, 1924). Australian Day Bill (14.5" X 40"). Screen legend Gloria Swanson stars in this tale of a young Parisian thief who disguises herself as a boy and is known only as the Hummingbird. When the World War breaks out, she and her band of thieves enlist in the military, but the Hummingbird is arrested when she is caught leaving her stolen loot at a church. Australian posters that were produced by the Richardson Studio have gained a big following over the last few years. The graphic art on many of them is quite unique and the style is always distinctive. This poster is are rare find in that it carries the signature of John Richardson. He signed a few pieces in the early 20s but the majority of Richardson Studio posters went unsigned. There is a good bit of wrinkling in this piece and it has been folded at some point. There are several scattered pinholes in the piece and a bit of edge wear with tears. Along the top are three significant tears, one of which has separated the upper right hand corner from the piece. The corner has been re-attached with archival tape. This is a unique piece from Australia that shows its age, but is still lovely to see. It could be restored very nicely without much trouble. Very Good/Fine.
