The present Art Deco pocket watch presumably dates from around 1920. The case is made of 800 Tula silver and was manufactured by Huguenin Frères in Switzerland. The watch has a crown wind movement, and shows the hour, minute and small second. The white enamel dial is fitted with black Roman numerals and Breguet hands. The case shows a decorative edelweiss décor and a monogrammed cartouche of rose gold on the front cover.

The case is hallmarked with the crown, the crescent, the fineness mark and the maker's mark ‘HF’ and ‘Niel’ standing for niello. The watch is in used condition with wear marks due to age. The dial shows fine scratches, and one hand is loose. During a short-term test, the watch was not running (no guarantee on long-term precision and regularity). The case diameter is 50 mm, and the total weight of the watch is approximately 81 grams.

Huguenin

The Huguenin family of watchmakers originates from Le Locle, Switzerland. However, some followers settled in the region around Neuchâtel. The Huguenins worked as watchmakers, engravers or producers of watch casings. Some of the engravers were also known as artists, painters or sculptors. (cko)
