Auction Date:2010 Apr 15 @ 11:00 (UTC-4 : AST/EDT)
Location:Crowne Plaza Hotel. 401 South Van Brunt St, Englewood, New Jersey, 07631, United States
ND (ca.1930-40's). 18 mounted small pencil sketches, pen and ink drawings and watercolors mounted on 9 by 12 inch thin board on front and back. Included is a Waterlow & Sons ad note design with a Roman soldier and spear. An early English colonial gentleman is in the watercolor drawing next to the previous item, both are approximately 4 by 3 inches. Drawings of chariots, Native Americans, Soldiers, Roman soldier with lion and horse as well as multiple drawings of Pegasus with the highlight being a 10 by 6 inch pen, ink and watercolor drawing of an allegorical woman playing the flute to 2 cherubs are included. They can probably be soaked, but I did not want to endanger the artwork. Fleury, an artist and designer for Waterlow & Sons, is known for designing stamps for the 1935 King George V Silver Jubilee Issue for England as well as a 1935 Portugal 1000 Escudos Note and a number of Czechoslovakian banknotes used in the 1940's and also other banknotes and stamps. Rare artwork from this well known Waterlow & Company artist. Fine to XF condition. W&S.
