Provenance:
Sir George Osborn Bt; by whom given to ‘Sunderland’, presumably a descendant of
George Spencer, the 3rd Duke of Marlborough and 5th Earl of Sunderland
(1706-1758) in June 1814.
Sir George Osborn served as commandinf officer of Thr Guards Grenadier Company,
in the American War of Independence. His portrait was painted by Romney just
eight years after the present likeness was taken.
