Huge turned head solid body whistling swan decoy
Huge turned head solid body whistling swan decoy ca 1870-1890. Used at the Quick Sand Pond Gunning Club, or Pequaw Honk Club, in Westport, MA. Big black glass eyes like those used by Joseph Lincoln. Lincoln and Crowell supplied most of the gunning decoys to the members. Possibly a very early piece by Lincoln. There are a number of checks in the neck with some putty and nail repairs. Check on the back from the breast to the tail with filler visible. Several great old coats of gunning paint. The only Massachusetts working swan decoy we have ever seen. (decoy)
