Hudson Bay Six Point Wool Trade Blanket c. 1930s
Featured in this lot is a Hudson Bay, six point wool trade blanket, circa 1930s. The number of points indicates the size of the blanket. Although the points did not originally assign a value to the blanket, over time, traders used the points to determine how many beaver pelts it could be traded for. At first, one point equaled one beaver pelt. By the early 1700s, the blankets represented more than half of the items traded for animal hides. The tag reads as follows: Hudson's Bay Point Blanket - Couverture a points de la baie d'Hudson - Hudson's Bay Company Incorporated 1670 - The Seal of Quality - Le Sceau de qualite - 100% Wool/Laine - Made in England - Faite en Angleterre. The condition of this Hudson Bay blanket is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this blanket are 88 1/2"L x 86 1/2"W.*
