Hubley Cast Iron Two Seat Two Horse Carriage
Featured in this lot is a Rare Hubley Cast Iron Two Seat Two Horse Surrey Carriage, Painted circa early 1900s. The Hubley Manufacturing Company was an American producer of a wide range of cast-iron toys, door stops, and bookends. The first Hubley toys appeared in 1909 and were made of cast-iron, with themes that ranged from horse-drawn vehicles and different breeds of dogs, to tractors, steam shovels and guns. This is a very rare toy depicting a man driving a woman. It is quite scarce, the four holes on the sides of the seats were for a canopy to be attached, the toy was sold with and without canopies. Both the riders and the seats detach from the carriage as well as the chassis and rear spoked wheels from the yoke. Paint appears to be original red, blue, mustard yellow, and white, and has flaked off in places. Toy is in remarkably good condition considering its age. Measures 3.5"W x 13"L x 5.5"H assembled.
