Howard Post - More Fun Comics Complete 6-page Sto
Howard Post - More Fun Comics Complete 6-page Story, "The Winning of the Tiny Princess" Original Art (DC, 1947). This incredible children's comic story looks so much like the work of Walt Kelly that, at first glance, it almost had several of our art experts fooled! Actually, it's by the very talented Howie Post, drawn during his brief tenure as primary artist for More Fun Comics in 1947. Post's series was entitled "Jimminy and the Magic Book"; that's Jimminy reading his fantastic book in the opening splash panel. Post's work so resembled Kelly's that the famous cartoonist offered Post a job as an assistant. That never happened, but Post did go on to become one of the top cartoonists for Harvey Comics in the early 1950s, drawing Spooky, Hot Stuff, and Little Audrey; in the late '60s, he returned to DC to create Anthro. We can't say for sure from which issue this story was published, if at all; as this was toward the end of More Fun's run, it's possible this piece was never published. The pages of this story measure 15" x 22" with image areas of 13" x 18", and are all in Excellent condition save for a minor bit of soiling along the borders. Post art from this period is extremely hard to find; here's a choice example!
