TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.25, personal letterhead, October 10, 1940. Short letter to “Chief of Police Britto,” in Bethel, Connecticut. In full: “Our mutual friend, Guy Vaughan, has asked that I send you the attached autographed photograph, which I am delighted to do. I hope you will accept it with my very best wishes.” In fine condition, with a small tape remnant to top left corner and a couple light marks and paperclip impression to top edge. Vaughan was a one-time race car driver who then climbed the ranks to become president of the Wright Aeronautical Corporation. A year before writing this letter, Hughes acquired a majority share of TWA, taking control of the airline, and beginning to work on a design for the new Constellation airplane.
