American publicist, lyricist, and librettist (1896–1983) known for his long association with composer Arthur Schwartz. Vintage matte-finish 10 x 13.25 portrait of Dietz seated and wearing a handsome suit, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “For my Max, and I’m not that megaphone bastard, Howard Dietz.” Housed in its original 11 x 14.25 frame which bears a label affixed to the reverse, noting that the recipient was theatre producer Max Gordon. In fine condition.
