An original preproduction “Whoville Citizen” patterned dress created by the costume department during the early design phase of How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000).
This charming prototype dress captures the signature whimsy of Whoville through its bold circular pattern in shades of lavender, teal, magenta, and yellow, printed on lightweight fabric. The sleeveless, ankle-length design features a tailored waist, back zipper closure, and side slits for ease of movement, embodying the eccentric yet elegant aesthetic that became a hallmark of the Whoville wardrobe.
Developed during the preproduction costume design process, this piece represents the creative experimentation that helped define the look and feel of Ron Howard’s beloved holiday classic. Under the direction of costume designer Rita Ryack, the wardrobe team crafted an imaginative array of Seussian fashion that blended retro sensibilities with fantastical flair, contributing to the film’s Academy Award®-winning visual world.
A wonderful example of the artistry and conceptual groundwork that shaped the timeless magic of Whoville.

The item(s) may exhibit varying levels of wear and studio distressing, as detailed in the listing images that provide an accurate representation of the condition.
