This charming apple-shaped rug was custom-made by the production for use as set dressing in Miss Rue Who’s house during the filming of How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Universal, 2000), directed by Ron Howard and starring Jim Carrey as the iconic Grinch. The vibrant, storybook-inspired interiors of Whoville were filled with handcrafted, whimsical decor like this, designed to bring Dr. Seuss’ eccentric illustrations to life.
Measuring 37.5" x 28.5", the rug is made of tufted wool in deep red and green hues, forming the shape of a bright red apple with stylized green leaves. Its playful design and rich texture embody the imaginative, curved aesthetic that defined the film’s production design, created under the vision of Academy Award-winning production designer Michael Corenblith.
A delightful and colorful artifact from one of cinema’s most beloved holiday worlds, this whimsical piece captures the warmth and charm of Whoville, straight from the home of one of its most memorable residents.
