This is an original production-made crash test reference marker created for use during the filming of How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Universal, 2000), starring Jim Carrey and directed by Ron Howard. The marker is an unused back-up piece made for Carrey’s memorable “Crash Test Grinch” costume, seen when the Grinch dramatically tests his high-speed sleigh contraption in his cave workshop.
Crafted from foam with yellow and black quadrant paint detailing, the piece measures approximately 6.5” in diameter and was designed to attach to the Grinch’s bodysuit using Velcro as a motion reference point.
Included with the marker is an original unpublished 4" x 6" production photograph of Jim Carrey in full “Crash Test Grinch” costume on set, featuring the same distinct reference points visible across his suit.
A fantastic and rare behind-the-scenes artifact connecting to one of the film’s most iconic and comedic sequences, this “Crash Test Grinch” reference piece captures both the humor and technical artistry behind Jim Carrey’s unforgettable performance.
